The West Fjords is one of the most beautiful and breathtaking areas of Iceland, it is also one of the least visited. From the capital of the area, Isafjörður, a careful Land Cruiser drive for two hours over mountains, in mid-winter, took me to the most impressive waterfall in the West Fjords, Dynjandi. The water plunges over a hundred metre drop into the fjords at the Dynjandisvogur inlet, forming five smaller waterfalls on the way. This day the waterfall was partially frozen and I was struck by the beauty of the patterns formed by the Ice and the fast running water.
